Going home for the weekend!!

We are so happy to be going home for the weekend. We have to be back in Baltimore for PT at 9:00 on Monday. I am happy for Anaïs that she gets to spend some time at home to see Sam and the doggies. PT has been going well and lengthening has started. Exciting!

First femur lengthening

Lengthening started today for her femurs! We start on tibias tomorrow. She has internal fixators on her femurs and we are AMAZED by how easy and pain free it is.
I think for us that has been the biggest surprise so far, we had thought the whole process would be way more painful and brutal. Of course, there are some moments when she is in pain but it is handled pretty quickly and efficiently with her prescriptions. This is the right path for her, she is so happy to gain some height that will give her so much more independence in her life.

Post op-day 4

We are currently on day 4 post surgery. We were discharged from the hospital yesterday and moved to the Hackerman Patz house across the street. Anaïs has been doing incredibly well. I am quite amazed actually, I must say I was prepared for much worse. The pain has been very well controlled, which was my biggest fear about the whole process. The medical team here has been outstanding and we are grateful for each and everyone of them.
Tomorrow we have her post op appt with Dr Standard and her first PT session. Lengthening starts tomorrow!! Exciting.

Surgery day!

Surgery went well. It was long, they took Anaïs back at 8:00 AM and it ended around 5:00.
Long day for everyone one. Anaïs did amazing, all fixators are in place and pain is under control right now.

Covid 19 test done ✅

Decision made

Anaïs decided to undergo limb lengthening. Anaïs was born with achondroplasia and we have been active members of LPA since her birth question she started asking about limb lengthening about a year ago and we told her that we would take her to a doctor consultation to get all her questions answered. Long story short we met with Dr. Standard out of Baltimore and her decision was made, she was going to go through with it. The progress that has been made in the medical field regarding limb lengthening is pretty amazing and I can understand why kids are willing to go through the surgeries and intense PT, the results are pretty incredible.
This blog will help keep friends and family informed on Anaïs’s progress and will Hopefully be a source of information for families and kids that are looking into limb lengthening.
surgery is scheduled for next week, Wednesday, July 22. Next step is this coming Thursday, COVID-19 test.
To be continued…
