Lengthening and pain

This past week has been pretty great I would say. We have been lengthening for just under 2 weeks and we had to slow down femur lengthening a bit because she grew so much. In just 10 days of lengthening, she gained 1.4 inches in her femur and about 0.5 inches in her tibias. We started lengthening her tibias 4 days after her femurs, so the slowing of the femurs will give her tibias time to catch up. With all this growing, the pain has picked up a bit but it is well controlled with medicine. Anaïs is very excited about her progress. Her and I also had our first outing alone, trip to Target. Here are some pictures of this past week.

Already seeing a difference

We are already seeing a difference in Anaïs legs, which is crazy because have only been lengthening for 9 days. Seeing how her legs are becoming longer, straighter and leaner makes me so happy for her and her future.

Home for the weekend

It was so good for Anaïs to be able to go home this past week end. This week, the pain has intensified a little, she is being very brave.

Going home for the weekend!!

We are so happy to be going home for the weekend. We have to be back in Baltimore for PT at 9:00 on Monday. I am happy for Anaïs that she gets to spend some time at home to see Sam and the doggies. PT has been going well and lengthening has started. Exciting!

First femur lengthening

Lengthening started today for her femurs! We start on tibias tomorrow. She has internal fixators on her femurs and we are AMAZED by how easy and pain free it is.
I think for us that has been the biggest surprise so far, we had thought the whole process would be way more painful and brutal. Of course, there are some moments when she is in pain but it is handled pretty quickly and efficiently with her prescriptions. This is the right path for her, she is so happy to gain some height that will give her so much more independence in her life.

Post op-day 4

We are currently on day 4 post surgery. We were discharged from the hospital yesterday and moved to the Hackerman Patz house across the street. Anaïs has been doing incredibly well. I am quite amazed actually, I must say I was prepared for much worse. The pain has been very well controlled, which was my biggest fear about the whole process. The medical team here has been outstanding and we are grateful for each and everyone of them.
Tomorrow we have her post op appt with Dr Standard and her first PT session. Lengthening starts tomorrow!! Exciting.
